Not the Day I Wanted

I knew going into this weekend that I wasn’t at 100%, and there was a chance I wouldn’t finish. If it wasn’t the Women’s Celebration, I probably would have fully rested. But this event is different—it’s a celebration of women empowering women, and I couldn’t pass that up.

I was really looking forward to playing Erika Oku, too, after meeting her in Chicago just a few weeks ago. She’s a great player who played a fantastic first game today. I hope we’ll have more battles in the future.

I’m very grateful to have had Lily by my side to catch me on the sidelines when I had to retire. It was frustrating—I never want to give up. But playing singles was pushing my knee too much. Tomorrow, I’ll be playing split age, filling in for Simone, who also got hurt today. Wishing her a quick recovery.

Thanks to everyone who has reached out. Sorry to scare people—I’m okay, and I’ll be fine. I’m just frustrated that my body is giving me limits. I appreciate the messages, well wishes, and prayers. I’ll be back 🦾.

Shoutout to the new names making it to the semis and finals! Make sure to tune in for Dominika and Shannon’s gold medal match on the APP stream.

This afternoon, I got to watch Lily tackle her training, and then we went to get our nails done—pink, of course—in full breast cancer awareness spirit.
