First Week of Post-Season: Gratitude and Adjustments

After the MLP event wrapped up in Orlando, we couldn’t pass up the chance to enjoy some of the magic the city has to offer. Two days in a row at Universal Studios made for an unforgettable time. Watching the kids (and Ryler, who might be the biggest kid of all) light up on all the rides was such a joy. It was the perfect distraction from the bittersweet realization that the 2024 U.S. pickleball season has come to an end.

But by Wednesday, the “Monday blues” kicked in—a post-tournament letdown that felt like a big mental shift. I even found myself researching what happens in the brain during this time. It turns out that the rush of dopamine and serotonin you experience during tournaments—those incredible highs, the adrenaline, the structured purpose—is followed by a natural dip when it all stops. The “real world” feels slower, less purposeful, and, honestly, dull by comparison.

And while it’s normal to miss the constant excitement, it’s also good for the body to take a breather. Feeling that contrast reminds me to be grateful for both the highs and the moments of quiet reflection.

Speaking of gratitude, we had the joy of spending Thanksgiving with friends who’ve been like family to us for the past 13 years. It was a heartwarming reminder to reflect on what truly matters and all the blessings we have.

As Melody Beattie says:

“Gratitude turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity. It makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

My gratitude list is endless, but at the top of it are my family, friends, health, and this incredible journey we’re on.

Now, it’s back to Sarasota for a training week as we gear up for the next adventure. Stay tuned—more updates to come!

Hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving surrounded by those you care about and took time to reflect on all we can be grateful for.
