The first day of MLP Miami is officially over, and what a ride it’s been! Our team pulled through some good matches and managed to collect 4 points for the standings. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though—we ended up with a technical foul, both for our team and the opposing team, and somehow I made it onto the Memes of Pickleball! So, you could say it was an eventful day.
Our first match went all the way to a dreambreaker, and let’s just say it was intense. At 20-20, I missed a horrific call on the sideline on a tough hustle for the ball, and unfortunately, playing it cost us the match. Watching the replay later was pretty brutal, but I’d rather be wrong that way—playing the point instead of making the wrong call. Tough loss, but it happens. Felt bad for my mistake costing our team the win.
On the upside, it’s been awesome hanging out with Allison, and we’ve been lucky to stay at a host family’s home. Huge thanks to Matt and Cantillon Endara for letting us crash at your place while you’re out competing at the Newport Beach APP. Don’t worry—we’re totally not planning any wild house parties! 🥳😂
Speaking of Newport Beach, Ryler and the kiddos are out there competing this weekend too. Ryler had a great day, making a great run to the semifinals before being stopped by Chris Haworth in a hard-fought battle. I’m following his results from Miami and am super excited to watch how the kids do tomorrow as well. Proud mama moment—they spent the entire day volunteering for the APP, which just warms my heart.
We capped off the day with a lovely with a lovely team dinner with the Saslow family, who are the majority owners of our team. Downtown Miami driving? Not so fun. But the delicious food and even better company definitely made it worth the hassle!
Tomorrow’s a rest day for us. We’ve got a team practice in the morning, then it’s all about recovery and prep for our last two regular-season matches on Saturday.
P.S. I’m feeling a little FOMO watching the videos coming in from the Delhi tournament—looks like the PWR is putting on a fantastic event, and I’m loving the results I’ve been seeing!
